Bebek Bengil Is A Balinese Restaurant, Originally From Ubud, Bali, Which Opened A Branch In Jakarta In 2009. It Was Quite A Challenge To Re-Create A Balinese Atmosphere In Central Jakarta With The Pollution And The Traffic, But The Final Result Is Not Bad. The Specialty Of Bebek Bengil (Which Means "Dirty Duck") Is The Crispy Duck. It Is Worth Trying For Its Relaxing Outdoor Garden. Naturally, It Is Also Recommended If You Are A Fan Of Balinese-Style Crispy Duck. Open Everyday, 11Am To 11Pm.
Bebek Bengil, Menteng
Been going here occasionally since secondary school. Everything seems to be the same every time I come here, including my own orders Nasi Bebek Bengil (132.5k). Buy I think the price keeps increasing?
They serve their Nasi Bebek Bengil with a portion of steamed rice, Balinese veggies, a slice of watermelon and half a duck. The duck is crispy and tender 😋, easy to pull apart using fingers, easy to bite and easy to pair with their sambal (or chilli). The classic sambal matah is however so different from the original Balinese version especially because they put it a lot of cabe rawit (a type or chilli). Overall, I like the dish. But is it worth the money? It may be a little overpriced but it’s not a daily meal so I guess it’s okay to splurge on this when you miss a taste of Balinese duck.
How do I eat it? I usually start off eating the watermelon, and then I squeeze the orange/lemon (under the duck) into the rice and duck. Then I spoon some chilli sauce of my preference to my plate next to the duck. I start pulling off parts of the duck and swipe the chilli with the duck. Then eat with rice. Recommended to use your fingers btw and please.
If you still have room for dessert, though not reviewed in this post, you can try out their Black Russian Pie (~70k). I like it 👌 Warning, there’s alcohol.
