A simple, home-made, original Indonesian style chicken grill. One of the most famous in town at that too. There's something about restarurants that focuses on one special dish that eventually become its signature, its brand, and in a way the reason that people keep coming back. Such is the case with Ayam Bulungan.
I was first introduced by a friend on a trip to Jakarta Selatan, and I'm hooked ever since. The deep fried chicken has its own dark brownish golden that drools. I suppose a good amount of seasoning is at play and resulted in a flavor that goes beyond skin deep.
The perfect companion to this would be its signature terasi sambal. Mildly spicy, its great to be enjoyed even with extra deep dip.
Other menus on the line such as Ayam Bakar Sambal Matah (traditional Balinese style chili), Gado Gado, and Tahu Telur are also worthy of trying.
Give it a taste, and I'm sure at least one of them will get you hooked. Don't expect special kind of service here though. Its more like sit-and-go kind of resto, not one to hang out or even hold events.
