Innovative cuisine with an unmistaken Northern Italian flavour. The extensive menu is specially prepared using only the freshest ingredients by our Italian Chef and his culinary team. Popular for Sunday Brunch as well as daily a la Carte Lunch and Dinner.
I've been here for bubbly brunch several times and I feel it's one of the better champagne brunches in Jakarta. It's definitely value for money and a great way to spend the afternoon with some friends. They have a wide variety of food during their brunch including japanese. Highly recommend it.
Il Mare is the Italian restaurant in the luxury hotel Mulia and as such has much to live up to being housed in the exquisite interiors of the venue. Having recently hired a new chef from Italy I was dining at one of his first wine pairing dinners – a 6 course dinner paired with Ruffino wines from Italy.
The restaurant occupies a relatively large space however it is section off allowing from more intimate spaces for couples of smaller groups to dine at. Despite being a high end restaurant the ambiance is not stuffy allowing for a relaxing dining atmosphere.
To start we had a Cuttle Fish Tagliatelle – a very interesting dish which I had never had before. There was a subtle mix of flavors here, the cuttlefish accented by a seaweed and sesame pesto. Not sure if this can be ordered from the menu.
Next was one of my favorite. Pan seared scallops on a potato fondant. The scallops were cooked perfectly slightly browned but soft and springy to taste. However what stood out was the potato. The creamed potato with black olive sauce was trulyn addictive – I’d be back again to just get this!
Next came a trio of meat dishes. A porcini and foie gras ravioli, stewed veal cheek and grilled venison. Of the three, I enjoyed the ravioli the most – I’d look to getting this as a main course on a return visit. The veal cheek had a wonderful texture to it but the sauce was too overpowering for me. The venison was also note worthy and the brunello was a perfect complement.
Finally the dessert was no exception to the well presented and quality food. This is my second visit to Il Mare it certainly outshone my first visit – which although nothing was at fault there was also nothing to write about. So I’m hoping that this new chef has brought a refreshed menu and taste to this iconic Italian in Jakarta.
