What’s in a name?
There are some things that you can’t help but notice about the Balinese: Their hospitality. Their smiles. Their amazing cultural heritage. Their names.
Yes, their names.
Shortly after arrival in Bali, you might find yourself thinking, “Self, why does everyone have the same name?!”
Hold tight, ’cause we’re ’bout to drop some serious Balinese knowledge on you: in Bali (much like the rest of Indonesia and icons including Cher, Madonna, and AgMo) most people simply have one name.
What makes the Balinese naming conventions even more unique is that children are named according to their birth order:
A first born child is likely to be named Wayan, the second born named Made, the third born named Nyoman, and the fourth born named Ketut. What happens if there’s a fifth child? The cycle starts all over again.
On an island full of Wayans, Mades, Nyomans, and Ketuts, you might find it hard to tell them all apart. There’s one Made that stands out, however: Made’s Warung.

Tuesdays: Balinese Dance from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm; Tropical Transit Band from 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Wednesdays: Balinese Dance from 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm
Thursdays: Solo Guitar 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm; Acoustic Guitar 8:30 pm – 11:00 pm
Fridays: Balinese Dance 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm; Fun Salsa Night 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Saturdays: Live Band 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm
Sundays: Barong or Legong Dance 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm, Salsa Dance by Made Alfa 9:00 pm – 12:00 am
